Author’s Note: Hiatus

Hi everyone.

I’ve been mulling over what to do next for a while, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to take a bit of a break from Starwalker.

The story isn’t going the way I want it to. I had a plan for how the last section of Book 4 would go, but it’s just not working the way I had in mind. The tone is completely off from what I was aiming for, and that’s on me. Last week, I wasn’t entirely happy with the post, but for various reasons, I decided to go with it. Now, I’m kinda regretting that decision.

I’ve got a lot on my plate right now. I’ve just had a big change in my day job that is demanding a lot of energy and attention, and November is always busy for me with NaNoWriMo events. I’ve also got a horrible cold that is making it hard to think straight at all! Between the schedule and the distractions, I am struggling to fix what’s wrong with the story.

So I’m going to take a little break from Starwalker. Try to get some distance, so I can come at it fresh and pull it around to where it really should be. I will be aiming to return it to the fun, kickass story we all know it can be. I really want Book 4 to end on a good note; I don’t want to mess it up.

So, watch this space. It’s going to be a few weeks before I’ll be back with Starwalker: look for news and updates around the beginning of December.

In the meantime, know that I adore and appreciate all of you lovely readers. I ask for your patience while I try to get this right. I am ever grateful for all of your comments.

Be well, my lovelies. I will be in touch again soon.

Completely understand. The last post or 2 didn’t feel like your usual style. Still excellently written, but something felt off. Step back, get healthy, focus on family and enjoy the upcoming holidays, we’ll be here when you’re ready to continue. 🙂

No problem. Take your time and get done what needs to be done. You’ll get no complaints from those of us in the free seats!

This is a busy month for many people, take what ever time you need.

    Sounds good to me.

If you really don’t like the last few posts, just rewrite them. You have many options but that one allows you complete freedom to make them exactly what you want.

    See ya soon

Thanks so much for your understanding, guys. I really appreciate it! 🙂

thomas – I will be considering the last few posts and whether or not I need to retcon them and take a fresh run at it. Once I’ve got a bit of distance, I’ll see what the best solution is going to be. I’m trying to keep my options open and be honest with myself about how to make it the best I can. We shall see!

I hope the change in the day job is a good one…

…and have fun with NaNo 😀

@Mike: What holidays??? The next ones are Chanukkah or Christmas, I believe, and there is still some time until then…

I’m glad the ending of book 4 will be on the brighter side, that’s one of the things that drew me to Starwalker originally and I’m relieved that your putting some of it back into the story. My favorite part is still when Starry first renders her avatar and pins the pirates to the deck, if that’s what you mean when you say “fun, kickass story” then I can’t wait to see what you come up with when you come back to it.

I read Zombie Knight and yesterday when I went to vote for it on topwebfiction, I randomly decided to click on another story to check it out. I am SO glad I picked Starwalker (had an interesting name) and it has been fascinating reading a story from a ship’s perspective. Have read stories from animal perspectives, but never a SHIP! I’m only in the beginning of the story, but so far what I’ve read is amazing. I can’t believe people like you write this level of quality stuff for free and update every week for years (I actually am not sure when you started writing this, like I said I just found your site). Anyway I probably wouldn’t have found out about your hiatus until I caught up, except the pages were loading really slowly and then just stopped loading. I cached this page in order to access it. I’m really sorry to hear that you’re taking a break, but I would rather you do that than burn out or become so discouraged you give up completely. It would always bother me, like stopping a great movie halfway through… what in the world became of Starwalker? She feels so real as a character. So I guess I’m just trying to say that this story is wonderful, and enjoy your holidays! Now to find where I left off..
